About SAPT Container
South Asia Pakistan Terminals (SAPT) is Pakistan’s first deep-water container terminal. It is designed to handle some of the world’s largest ships, known as super post-panamax vessels.
Located at the Keamari Groyne Basin in Karachi, the terminal provides the easiest sea access for large cargo vessels entering Pakistan. SAPT is a project by Hutchison Ports Pakistan and Karachi Port Trust.
The total project cost is over $1.4 billion. Hutchison Ports invested $600 million in advanced port technology and infrastructure. Karachi Port Trust contributed $350 million for dredging and port development.
Together, they built a modern, high-capacity port to make Pakistan a stronger trade hub in the region.
Hutchison Ports and SAPT
Hutchison Ports Pakistan is part of the global Hutchison Ports network. This group operates 53 ports in 24 countries, covering Asia, Europe, Africa, and the Americas.
Hutchison Ports is owned by CK Hutchison Holdings Limited, one of the world’s largest logistics and infrastructure companies. Besides ports, the group also runs cruise terminals, airport operations, distribution centers, and rail services.
In 2022, Hutchison Ports handled 84.8 million TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units) across its terminals proving its global strength and scale.
SAPT follows the same quality and safety standards used worldwide, making it a trusted and efficient terminal for importers and exporters in Pakistan.
